Sustainability

Humans are central to everything we design. By deeply understanding how people experience, use, and perceive a space, we create places that optimally contribute to their well-being. This user-centered approach teaches us that true well-being is only possible if we also care for the world around us. Because a pleasant, healthy living environment requires conscious choices that extend beyond the here and now. Based on this conviction, we strive for sustainable design choices from the perspective of human welfare.

Sustainability is a multifaceted concept, and opinions quickly differ on how sustainable something is. We also have these conversations, internally and with our clients. What's important is that as designers, we can contribute in different ways through conscious choices in design strategies and material use.

We determine our approach for each assignment, fitting the objectives of the project and the ambitions of the client. For this purpose, we have a toolbox with different approaches, resources, and literally... materials.

Layered
interior design

A sustainable approach begins with lifespan. For us, an interior consists of different layers, each with a specific lifespan and design approach.

1. Structure

The architectural elements and installations are characterized by a long lifespan. A timeless and function-neutral design ensures lasting flexibility.

2. Fixed furnishings

This layer, with a lifespan of approximately 10 years, requires sustainable and timeless materials and detailing that suit the function of the space.

3. Loose furnishings

Flexible furniture and accessories that are easily adaptable to changing needs. When selecting these items, sustainability, origin, and circularity are central considerations.

By focusing on this layering and flexibility, we create future-proof interiors that can be easily adapted to changing uses.

Circular
strategies

As designers, we can work according to the principles of the R-ladder, which encompasses strategies for circularity such as reducing, reusing, and recycling materials. By consciously designing for future reuse and repair, we actively contribute to the circular economy, ensuring raw materials remain in the cycle and are not wasted.

Toolbox
sustainable materials

We have now built a fairly large library of new innovative materials: bio-based, circular, fully recycled or made with recycled raw materials, both with and without sustainability labels. This library continues to grow and exists in both physical and digital form. We'd be happy to show it to you.

We are
not perfect...

Sometimes we separate our waste, sometimes not. In some projects we make a big step, in some a small one. But a small step is also a step. What matters is that we want to move in the right direction. Always doing our best to create something beautiful - for your customers, visitors or employees, for others, for our planet
